ART PRACTICE

"Art is not what you see, but what makes others see" - Edgar Degas

Art I believe is an important subject as it can allow artists to express themselves challenging world issues in their work and art allows opportunities for artist's opinions to be heard. Art can entice conversations and allow expression of thoughts, ideas, and perspectives all through visual means. In my art practice, I have learned many disciplines throughout my college experiences of completing bachelors degree in fine art in Dublin Institute of Technology and a master of fine art degree in the National College of Art and Design. My art studio practice explores a variety of mediums such as drawing, sculpture, painting, video editing, photography, and printing. Many times through my art making I like to merge two types of art media together to create artworks for my exhibitions. Artists not only should explore and push boundaries of their choice of mediums in their art practice but also go and visit both contemporary and traditional art galleries. It is essential in my practice to gain inspiration not only by traditional art but also contemporary art by see ongoing themes and exploration of materials used in the artworks. Reflecting on my studio practice, I completed a range of art exhibitions, pushing myself to creating large installations and exploring the art process of my chosen materials, and traveling to galleries all which is essential to my art practice. Now as an art educator I combine not only the approaches of teaching but also make sure not to loose my identity as an artist and I believe it is important to my students to see the life as a artist who works in a studio as well as the teacher and how I merge the two together.
