VAC'S

The School of Education in NCAD has a longstanding relationship with The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) whereby the Museum acts as an integral resource for our teaching and learning. An extraordinary collection of 52 works by Lucian Freud has become part of the IMMA National collection until 2021. During this five-year period IMMA will present a series of Lucian Freud exhibitions each year. For the visual arts in the classroom (VAC) module, you will begin by exploring and responding to the exhibition, 'Obedience and Defiance’ the major exhibition of the work of Paula Rego, shown in IMMA. These are two master painters of the 20th and 21st centuries and  this is an opportunity to view Rego’s work through the prism of Freud.

PME students had to explore the following themes in relation to both Freud's and Rego's artworks which include The Outsider, Beneath the Surface, Obedience and Defiance, and Thematics. VAC module consists of the PME students engaging in the process of Respond, Research and Create as their practice as an artist and educator merge together. VAC module included drawing, painting, digital media, collage and print.
